Toys for SDCC 2009 (Part One: Coverage from Vinyl Pulse + Plastic & Plush)

VP-PNP-SDCC

With all the excitement mustered for the SDCC weekend past, the reality is - I am a few thousand miles away from where the action was, and still rely on other folks' snaps and comments based on them being there physically. And I am thankful there are loads of snaps to be had and gawk at! CLICK THRU for a few select toys (from excellent on-site coverage by Jack of Vinyl Pulse and Brian of Plastic and Plush) - that have as yet appeared on the TRE blog (All images copyright respective source).

(Above-left): BELIEVE is Jermaine Rogers' new resin project; "the latest uplifting incarnation of his popular Dero character" - featuring a sculpt by Brin Berliner. Expect a release of this 9" tall figure in a few weeks' time, in several editions and colorways. (More pics & info via VP) ... and yes, Cher's song has been playing at the back of my mind typing thi, srsly! LOL

(Above-center): PEPPER is the name of Ragnar's new vinyl figure - produced by 3D Retro. The one shown at SDCC is a protoype (Higher-res pics via VP). Loving the huge hat with skull-emblem :)

(Above-right): From Peekaboo Monster x antkillers came the release of the SDCC exclusive edition of the resin THE BIRDS (via the Cardboard Spaceship booth) with a homage to Hitchcock (More pics via VP)

You know what? I really like the concept of a "car" - specifically an art-toy inspired / themed / style vehicular toy. The bulkiness / size of the car reminds me so much of my youth with toy-cars, when every other object was bigger than your wittle hands LOL. This rocks because of that memory.

Check out VP for more pics of Ron English's BEN BANGER - which was released and on display at ToyTokyo's booth.

(Above-left): Marka27's MG3 resin figures - limited to 20pcs at US$100-per. More details on the figure here on TRE, while more pics awat at Vinyl Pulse of the figure, Marka27 and Jesse Hernandez - who were at Munky King for signing sessions.

(Above-right): Super7 x Lucasfilm JUMBO STORM TROOPER is simply put; Awesome. ~ a retrolicious take on the iconic trooper, with tin-toy-ish form and sensibilities, the "the final production figure will be made from blown polyurethane" - with a tentative year-end 2009 release. [Info+Pic via VP]

(Above): David Lanham had on show a slew of figures with Strangekiss - including the 8 inch tall BILL THE YETI featuring a vinyl figure with fabric clothes with designs from MAD, Lanham himself and Frank Kozik. Not too keen on the ill-fitting clothes, but I find Bill pretty hilarious (in a good way). Also notice the TWITTERIFIC BIRD OLLIE at base of image - yes, Lanham designed the iconic bird for Twitter! (more on that in a separate post).

But what really got my man-giggling were the adorable FETCH: PEET & BARNABY figures! Imagine if it had a tail, it'll be wagging happily in the air LOL ... Shown below standing next to MAXSWELL - THE BUBBLE MONSTER (lurv the name, but not necessarily the toy, IMHO). More images via Plastic and Plush's gallery-post [all pics via]
