The Coming of God Complex: Hermes in 1/6 from Fox Box Studios

GOD-COMPLEX-HERMES-01

The landscape of 12" figure collection these days are mostly made up of licensed properties, as well as cool but obviously unlicensed characters, but extremely few "original" characters (with the sole exception of ThreeA Toys), much less a non-license figure to boot. And a exceptionally designed and produced one, even harder to expect, not unless you are one of the "big boys" (hence the ever conundrum with the need for existence of "licensed products"). Then something like God Complex : Hermes" from Foxbox Studio pops into my inbox, and my 1/6-loving heart gleams with hope once again.

From Jakarta Indonesia comes a new boutique studio producing original concepts of their own, with "HERMES" from their God Complex series the first one out the gate! Helmed by Feisal Hamka and Bryan Lie (whom I had the opportunity to meet in Jakarta for MWFI), Hermes is FoxBox Studio's first release and is limited to only 100 pieces ~ the availability and cost of Hermes is as yet revealed. You are advised to stake out their Facebook for first hand info (and as well stay tuned to the TOYSREVIl blog, yo!).

Themed around the concept of mythical "gods" ("Hermes" is the "God Of Speed"), from the studio images, Hermes is clad surprisingly in modern workwear with a dapper waistcoat, while brandishing a uber-cool helm module from the exiting future. The sling-bag is a sweet touch (although it looks a tad drab compared to the character design, IMHO) ~ I wonder what the inside holds? And another swell touch is the cowboy-styled mecha-boots with motion accessory. And another intriguing thing for me, besides the obvious sweetness of the figure design, is that he has yet other "brothers" in the God Complex-lore: "Hades" and "Inari"! Check out the character illustrations below from Bryan Lie!

CONCEPT: "In the beginning, Earth was dominated by the "Rulers", A primordial race born of nature's force itself. Having the privilege to take after nature, they have the ability to understand and manipulate it's force for Earth's good.

Aeons passed and another race was born of nature. They are called "Humans". Being the second born, the humans lack the wisdom to understand nature and it's traits. Due to their primitive nature, they are no different than animals. Their action are based on animalistic instincts and live without any greater sense of purpose. The Rulers grew pity for their brothers' inadequacy. They guide the humans away from their doom. In return, the humans must share the burdens of The Rulers, and follow after them. With these newfound wisdom, the humans give their life to the Rulers. They worship The Rulers and they built monuments and temples to show appreciation to their brothers while at the same time they are fighting amongst themselves to fulfill their primal needs. For millennia, The Rulers and the humans walk hand-in-hand through chaos.
