Toy-Review: What Did I Eat Ephunt (Big City Edition) from Amanda Visell

Today we review the What Did I Eat Ephunt designed and created by Amanda Visell. Released in 2010, this is the "Big City" edition (out of 4 x editions which also included 'Jamboree', 'Natural Habitat' and 'Warrior') and is produced by Switcheroo themselves. The price-point was US$70 per and limited to 500 pieces, and in my opinion, a decent price for a decent slice of "art toy".

Shown above is the packaging box for the figure, and it is a pretty decent box-package with printouts all around - which somehow contributes to the cost, methinks - but I am a toy-miser (and this was a 'gift', so I shouldn't really quibble as much :p). I like the box. I wish I could display it somehow along with the figure-set in a display without it looking like a shop-front display, ya know?

A plastic tray within contained all the pieces, with the accessories sealed in a separate baggie.

The figure set consists predominantly of the main blue-hued Ephunt, and a little vinyl baby Ephunt - which is a free-standing figure. The main Ephunt possess articulation on all four turnable legs, as well as the ears. The hollowed out figure gives it a decent heft, and the subtle textured finishing gives it a feel like it is made of 'wood' - a hallmark of Amanda's work, which I enjoy - so this is a real treat.

The baby Ephunt is a straight-up vinyl figure tho without weathering, and is somehow a tad bland, compared to the big Ephunt, but that's a small quibble.

The "Big City" Edition also includes accessories like a house and a car, alongside a baby - all of which has a peg which can be attached to the side of the Ephunt (ala the pictures). This provides a semblance of playability, and is fun in the early stages - subsequently I found it a chore to keep/store the accessories somewhere away from the figure.

Perhaps the figure could have an openable storage space to keep them? Of course this will be extra cost, but it sure as heck beats loosing them when misplaced somewhere else, IMHO.
