ABOUT: Hoang grew up in California and was always the best artist in his class. He was also the best at math and science which would lead him down a long path ending in dental school. He would eventually withdraw from school hoping to fill the creative void which had been denied in the name of a respectable and safe career. Utilizing the same tools and instruments he once used to fill cavities, Hoang now carves intricate sculptures out of crayons. He is inspired by geek and pop culture and his subjects come from TV, movies, cartoons and comic books. By combining the skills he learned as an adult with the crayons from his childhood, Hoang hopes to shine some light on art coming from unusual places (like an artist coming out of dental school).
