2020 Tokyo Olympics

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe “guest stars” in this sequence at the closing of the 2016 Rio Olympics, heralding the passing of the torch - or in this case a ruby red ball - to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (as foretold in Akira lol).

The video featuring “Super Mario” and “Doraemon”, and as well as “Hello Kitty” and “Captain Tsubasa” truly showcases the pop culture / J-Pop culture that resonates with the world, methinks!

Watch the above video quite (before it gets pulled), and I’ll update when a clearer, more “official” version is viewable online!

Also check out the “concept video” of Tokyo 2020 Games Emblems, featured at base of this post … no anime-styled mascot seen tho :)
