A Weekend of Pop Culture From East and West at Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2011

EVENT PRESS: A Weekend of Pop Culture From East and West! Love Comics, Anime, Manga, Toys, Collectibles, Games and Movies? Get ready for a weekend packed with fun, excitement and a sampling of Pop Culture from around the planet at the 2011 Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention! STGCC takes over Suntec Singapore on 20 and 21 August, and you should buy your ticket now to avoid the queues at the event!
Happening a week from today, The Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention [www] will be opening their doors at the SUNTEC Convention Centre, Level 4, Halls 401 & 402 for a two-day infusion of pop culture into our island state. Much fulore has been made about it's previous four-day affair in 2009, now drastically dwindled down to the two-day weekend event on August 20th to 21st (sans a "Preview Night" even) - and today's "Life" newspaper has not been too kind too. But nevertheless, the event rolls on, and frankly, I can only hope it continues forth year after year, or else the alternative is "none", isn't it?

This year's event is a "ticketed" event, with one day entry costing SGD$10, and two-days SGD$18 per person. Booths are being set-up in a variety of places to sell the tickets in advance this weekend, with a DC Justice League poster given as a bonus for buys. Check out more updates and details on the STGCC Facebook. Tickets purchased online gets a Green Lantern or a Captain America poster.

STGCC-FLOOR-PLAN

Shown directly above, we have the convention Floor Plan - which sees a reduced space, but for an enlarged presence of Play Imaginative, Hot Toys (with a separate "Exclusives Collection Point" too). Tokidoki, and Tamiya. Marvel Comics and DC Comics measure as big as U-Toys and we have a very interesting "Walking Dead" booth! In addition, there is a large Cafe area too at the far-end of the hall (which works well for me as I needn't be on my feet that often, truth be told).

Adopting the familiar concept of a 'segregated' Main Stage area ala Anime Festival Asia, a third of the space is dedicated to the Walk of Fame and Main Stage. Should be interesting to see what unfolds here. Absent from this year's line-up are conferences and talks/workshops, so the focus is on what the booths have on show - which I actually expect quite a lot from this year. You put up a booth to show your wares to people who follow you, and to draw in people who are interested - you represent yourself and your brand, no one else - and there need no other reason nor excuse, than that.

STGCC-GUEST-LINEUP

A host of Guests are listed and viewable in detail via here (so I will not repost them here) which sees a distinct measure of comicbook influences, and a larger presence of cosplay folks, as compared to previous years, and designer vinyl folks (which we know intimately on his blog) are dwindled down to a handful. With Simone Legno and DEVILROBOTS making their way back to STGCC, Andrew Bell now joins the group!

If plans have not changed, I will be moderating Andrew's on-stage Panel on Saturday August 20th at 3:30pm to 4:30pm, so please come support! And by that I meant "support Andrew", and not necessarily "me" hahaha (*laughter-fades*).

STGCC-EVENTS-UPDATE

In the coming days I will attempt to feature select booths and list specific products, and hopefully feature folks from Artist Alley (which I spent the bulk of my money on last year, being wheeled around in my wheelchair muahahaha). And the list is pretty interesting too!

Grouses? I have quite a few actually (but that's another post altogether) but this year I choose to instead spend more time and energy in promoting the exhibitors rather than deriding the organizers, because the event is happening regardless, and folks have reserved their booths with their hard-earned money, haven't they? Let's see what they have in-store for us … *Stay tuned to TOYSREVIL*
