PRESS RELEASE: "For nearly ten years, BooksActually – the indie bookstore that Cereal Magazine calls “in a league of its own” – and its publishing imprint Math Paper Press have been known as bastions for Singaporean authors. They have provided a platform for truly unique local voices to be heard. And now, they are taking on comics and picture books.

This year, for the first time ever, BooksActually will have a presence at the Singapore Toy Games & Comic Con (STGCC) on 6 – 7 September 2014, with a booth that features works from its comic and genre-centric collective The Comic Strip. The booth (located at lot #H21) will launch works not only from familiar names in the Singaporean comic scene like Troy Chin and Kenfoo, but also books from new creators like Stephanie Raphaela Ho, Wayne Rée and Gene Whitlock."

It was just perfect timing, said BooksActually’s co-founder Kenny Leck. "We were working with these creators, separately at first. But we soon found that, even though their books were as diverse as you can get as far as subject matter goes, they all just wanted to tell great stories and have fun in the way that only the medium of comics can allow." Leck adds, "STGCC was the obvious choice to launch all these books. The convention continues to grow every year, both in terms of attendees and overall vibrancy – and we can’t wait to see the fans here embrace what is just our first wave of great new comics and picture books."

Aside from launching new titles, BooksActually will also have portfolio reviews over the two-day event, where illustrators can approach the publisher with their work for feedback from professional creators – and maybe even the chance to publish their own books. The books launched at STGCC 2014 will be:

• The Resident Tourist: Vol. 6 by Troy Chin
• A Wonderful Life by Kenfoo
• The Adventures of Fatman & Superchub by Stephanie Raphaela Ho
• Tales From A Tiny Room by Wayne Rée
• The Unsavoury Alphabet by Gene Whitlock

TOYSREVIL will attempt to take a closer look at them in the days to come, leading up to STGCC. Meanwhile, take note of the Event Schedule for Booth #H21!
